| Plan to join us for a light Lenten Supper on Fridays following the Stations of the Cross at 7:00 pm. Thank you to those who have volunteered to prepare the meals for us.
Thank you to Jorge Oropeza for donating several days of his time to repair and paint a room in the rectory which suffered considerable water damage before the roof was repaired last summer. We are grateful for his generous service to the parish. Jorge has his own handyman business and can be contacted through the rectory office. We recently received a notice from the City that parking will no longer be permitted on the north side (church side) of Chapel Street. It seems that parking will be permitted on the south side (bank side). I am sure that signage will be installed when the matter is settled, but I want to warn our parishioners in advance of this probable change. Please see the schedule of Lenten devotions elsewhere in the bulletin. As there is an opportunity every evening during the week, I hope that each of our parishioners will make the effort to “take on” something extra as well as give something up this Lent. Remember that there is the possibility of obtaining a plenary indulgence (under the usual conditions) for participating in the Stations of the Cross in the church. The “usual conditions” for gaining a plenary indulgence include: completing the prayer or work, e.g. the Stations; be in a state of grace; pray for the pope’s intentions (Our Father and Hail Mary suffice); sacramental Confession within about 20 days before or after the completion of the prescribed prayer/work; reception of Holy Communion (prayer for the pope and Communion are required for each plenary indulgence); detachment from even venial sin (what exactly this means is hard to say, but we do our best and leave the rest to God). If we don’t manage to obtain the plenary indulgence it will be partial. For more details see the EWTN website. |
Planee unirse a nosotros para una cena ligera de Cuaresma los viernes después del Vía Crucis de las 7:00 pm. Agradecemos a las personas que se han ofrecido para preparar las cenas y poder compartirlas con los feligreses que asistan.
Gracias a Jorge Oropeza por donar varios días de su tiempo para reparar y pintar una habitación en la rectoría que sufrió daños considerables por el agua lluvia antes de reparar el techo el verano pasado. Estamos agradecidos por su generoso servicio a la parroquia. Jorge tiene su propio negocio de mantenimiento y puede contactarlo por medio de la rectoría. Recientemente recibimos un aviso de la Ciudad de que ya no se permitirá estacionar en el lado norte (lado de la iglesia) de Chapel Street. Parece que se permitirá estacionar en el lado sur (lado del banco). Estoy seguro de que la señalización se instalará cuando esta disposición entre en vigencia, pero quiero advertir a nuestros feligreses antes de este probable cambio. Consulte el horario de devociones cuaresmales que se encuentra en el boletín. Como hay varias oportunidades durante la semana para participar en el Vía Crucis, espero que cada uno de nuestros feligreses haga un esfuerzo para que esta Cuaresma intensifiquemos nuestras oraciones. No olvide que existe la oportunidad de obtener una indulgencia plenaria (bajo las condiciones habituales) al participar en el Vía Crucis en la Iglesia durante la Cuaresma. Las "condiciones habituales" para obtener una indulgencia plenaria incluyen: completar la oración y obras, participar en el Vía Crucis; estar en un estado de gracia; orar por las intenciones del Papa (Un Nuestro Padre y Ave María son suficientes); Confesión sacramental dentro de aproximadamente 20 días antes o después de completar la oración y obras prescritas; recepción de la Sagrada Comunión, desapego incluso del pecado venial (lo que esto significa exactamente es difícil de decir, pero hacemos nuestro mejor esfuerzo y dejamos el resto a Dios).
