From time to time I recommend books that I think would be beneficial to read intellectually and spiritually. The first is Out of the Ashes by Anthony Esolen, which analyzes the real and deep problems in contemporary culture and offers strong suggestions as to how to turn things around.
The second is The Power of Silence by Cardinal Sarah. It is a wonderful book, intellectually challenging, and yet very pastoral, on the lack of silence in our lives and the need for silence in our lives without which we cannot encounter God. Both are available in St Mary's beautifully remodeled Bookstore.
