| First, I wish to thank all of the volunteers who have generously agreed to serve as ushers and sanitizers in the church as we try to follow all the necessary protocols required to worship inside the church building again. I think our system is working well, all things considered. As the weather warms up, we are grateful not to have to be outdoors.
As I mentioned last weekend, the Fire Marshall will be here this week to assess our occupancy capacity in anticipation of new government regulations concerning the number of people who may be in the church at one time. We may hope for an increase in that number. We could use some more volunteers for the 4:00 pm Mass on Saturday as it is difficult for me to hear Confessions until 3:45 and make sure that everything is going as it should as people begin to arrive for Mass. I would ask the volunteers (particularly the ushers) to arrive at least 20 minutes before Mass begins in order to check reservations and seat people according to our plan. Please plan ahead and call the church during the week to make reservations. It is difficult for me to attend to phone calls on Saturday and Sunday. Speaking of phone calls, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to speak to many of you on the phone while the office was closed for many weeks. It was an opportunity to get to know many parishioners better. Thanks, also, to all who continue to support us financially. We are finally able to restart all the projected work around the property that was suspended due to the pandemic. The plan for re-sealing and re-striping the parking lot is back in motion. The gates at both ends of the schoolyard have been repaired as have the steps at the back of the rectory. The front porch of the rectory is undergoing repair, power washing, and is getting a long needed fresh coat of paint. The garage doors are next on the list to be repainted. The landscapers will arrive soon to trim all the bushes and vines which have come back to life with sun and rain. We are back to work on replacing the church’s front doors. This project has been delayed for so long because we have had difficulty finding the right contractor to do the work. It seems to be a project too small for large contractors, and too large for small contractors. Nevertheless, it is at the top of the list of our larger projects. And finally, I don’t think anything major is broken at the moment, thanks be to God. Things are looking up! (6/22/20) |
Primero, deseo agradecer a todos los voluntarios que generosamente se ofrecieron para servir y desinfectar la iglesia siguiendo todos los protocolos necesarios para asistir a nuestras Misas en la Iglesia y adorar al Señor como se merece. Creo que nuestro sistema está funcionando bien, dadas la circunstancias. Damos gracias a Dios que al encontrarnos con el clima caliente, propio de la temporada, ya estamos dentro de la Iglesia y no al aire libre.
Como mencioné el fin de semana pasado, el Jefe de Bomberos estará aquí esta semana para hacer una inspección y evaluar nuestra capacidad de ocupación de acuerdo a las nuevas regulaciones gubernamentales en cuanto al numero de personas permitidas y otras reglas impuestas por el gobierno local. Necesitamos mas voluntarios para la Misa del sábado a las 4 de la tarde. Me resulta difícil escuchar confesiones hasta las 3:45PM y al mismo tiempo estar pendiente de recibir a las personas que han reservado para asistir a Misa y orientarlas en cuanto al lugar que deben ocupar. Sería ideal que los servidores llegaran 20 minutos antes de la Misa para verificar las reservaciones y asistir a los feligreses indicándoles sus asientos. Les pido a todos los que reserven, que lo hagan con anticipación de lunes a viernes durante la semana. Para mi es muy difícil atender llamadas telefónicas los días sábados y domingos. Y ya que menciono las llamadas telefónicas, me siento muy agradecido de haber tenido la oportunidad de hablar con muchos de ustedes por teléfono mientras la oficina permaneció cerrada por varias semanas. Fue uan gran oportunidad para conocer mejor a muchos de ustedes los feligreses de Santa María. Gracias, también, a todos los que continúan apoyándonos financieramente. Finalmente podemos reiniciar todos los proyectos que teníamos planeados a ejecutar alrededor de la parroquia y que fueron suspendidos debido a la pandemia. El plan para volver a sellar y marcar de nuevo el estacionamiento está nuevamente en marcha. Las puertas en ambos extremos del patio de la escuela han sido reparadas al igual que los escalones en la parte posterior de la rectoría. El porche delantero de la rectoría está siendo reparado, lavado a presión, y se le esta dando una capa de pintura fresca, que era necesaria desde ya hace tiempo. Seguidamente se pintarán los portones del garaje. Los jardineros también se encargaran de podar todos los arboles, arbustos y enredaderas que han hecho su aparición con el sol y la lluvia. Estamos retomado los planes para reemplazar las puertas de entrada de la iglesia. Este proyecto se ha retrasado durante mucho tiempo debido a que hemos tenido dificultad para encontrar el contratista idóneo para llevar a cabo este proyecto. Parece ser un proyecto demasiado pequeño para grandes contratistas, y demasiado grande para pequeños contratistas. Sin embargo, está en la lista de prioridades de nuestros proyectos futuros. Y finalmente, creo que por ahora no tenemos nada de importancia que se haya dañado. ¡Gracias a Dios! ¡Las cosas están mejorando! (22/6/20) |
