St. Mary’s Students’ Scholas: Advent in New York
Prelude to the Annual Advent Mass of the Sisters of Life
Sunday, 5 December 2010, 2:00 p.m.
Church of St. Michael, New York City
(34th Street between 9th & 10th Avenues)
The prayer and work of the Sisters of Life on behalf of the sacredness of human life is deservedly well-known in New York and, increasingly, around the world. The St. Mary’s Students’ Scholas were honored to have received an invitation from the Sisters to sing a half-hour prelude for their annual Advent Mass. (The students will also have sung that morning for the 9:30 Solemn Mass at St. Mary’s.) On the program:
Veni, Redemptor gentium (plainsong, mode ii; Nun komm der Heiden Heiland)
Joys Seven (traditional English)
Riu riu chiu (Spanish carol)
Creator alme siderum (plainsong, mode iv)
The Truth From Above (arr. Vaughan Williams)
The Angel Gabriel (Basque carol)
Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming (Es is ein’ Ros’ entsprungen)
Ave Maria & Magnificat (plainsong, modes i & ii)
The Sisters will join the students for the last several carols, and for the chanting of the Magnificat.
